X’s & O’s – Navajo Style – Sterling Silver Ring
Beautiful Southwest Native American Styled hand made sterling silver ring with traditional stamped designs.
A nice addition to your tribal jewelry collection. Made In Australia
The stamps used to make this ring are hand forged tool steel made by DR Jewellery & Design from archival images of the original Navajo Indian symbols that were used in the latter part of the 1800’s. After the stamping process the ring is formed and is made to size. The depressions that the stamps impart on the metal surface are highlighted by the process of darkening the metal with a liver of Sulfer solution & then buffed to a high polish, leaving the depressions a dark colour.
You might ask why is a Jeweller living in Australia making Navajo Indian styled Jewellery. I spent the first half of my life living in Texas and can vividly remember my first impressions of any type of jewellery, was that of the silversmiths in New Mexico. Our family holidays did frequent the Sante fe area on many occasions and while there we would visit the markets where you would see endless amounts of Indian jewellery & made by the artisans that lived there. It is only in the last year or so that I developed a keen interest in the stamping process of jewellery making, particularly that of using the symbology of the Navajo People
